Camp Fire Central Puget Sound – Camp Sealth

Location:

Vashon Island, WA – 30min from greater Seattle/Tacoma area by ferry

Organization:

Camp Sealth is year-round camping and retreats facility that offers traditional Summer Camp, Environmental Education & Retreats. Camp Fire was established with a strong foundation in providing positive outdoor experiences for youth and it is fundamental to our mission, core values, and programs. We believe in the power of nature to awaken a child’s senses, curiosity and desire to learn. With our completely inquiry-based program, our students are taught to study and evaluate the natural world. Through hands-on learning, they develop a deeper understanding of the scientific method and we hope – a curiosity and love for the environment.

Position qualifications include:

  • Degree or some college education in environmental education, the natural sciences, education, or related field
  • High School Diploma or equivalency required
  • Experience working in camp or educational setting with youth helpful
  • Formal or informal experience teaching
  • Enthusiasm for learning and teaching about the natural world objectively
  • Ability to work and live comfortably in a small community and work effectively as a member of a team.
  • Ability to accept supervision and guidance
  • Ability and willingness to work full days and evenings
  • Creativity, energy, motivation, and professionalism
  • Flexibility with regard to tasks, work hours, changes in program or plans, etc
  • Good interpersonal communication skills
  • Current First Aid and CPR training (can obtain after job offer is made)
  • Washington Food Handler’s Permit (can obtain after job offer is made)

Position responsibilities.

This position encompasses many different aspects of camp, including program/activity leadership, cleaning and kitchen operation, and summer preparation support: helping instructors to gain a uniquely diverse set of skills, knowledge and experience. Environmental Education Instructors teach classes to youth of all ages with curriculum including Forest and Marine Ecology, Outdoor Living, and Sustainability. Instructors will be trained in several recreational activities such as archery, challenge course, waterfront, arts & crafts, and games. Applicants should display creativity, compassion, and self-motivation and be ready to share the joy of nature with students!

Dates of employment:
April 4th – June 14th, with the possibility for continued summer and fall employment opportunities

Remuneration:
$50/day + room and board
