Work Schedule Summary:
Work Schedule: Regular office hours M-F 8:00 to 5:00 with some flexibility possible depending on circumstances. Work outside of these hours required as needed.
Pay Rate Range:
47600 to 90400
Job Summary:
University of Utah Facilities Management (FM) seeks a collaborative individual to lead and coordinate its Sustainability efforts. This leader will develop, coordinate, and act as a catalyst for a FM-wide program of environmental stewardship, energy conservation, and environmental education and outreach, based on sound research and sustainability metrics working in collaboration with each of the FM department directors and their staff (Facility Operations, Capital Projects, and Environmental Health & Safety). Provide broad research and analysis support for FM.
Responsibilities:
- Reports to the director of Facilities Business Services. Collaborates with the University’s central sustainability office.
- Works with stakeholders, both internal and external to FM to develop and implement policies, procedures, goals, and objectives that integrate sustainability principles and practices into the operations and culture of FM and the University.
- Identifies, promotes, and facilitates activities, methods and technologies to save energy, reduce greenhouse gas emissions, reduce waste, and increase environmental awareness within the department.
- Coordinates between multiple departments across campus to solicit, compile and summarize FM and campus-wide sustainability data into cohesive sustainability reports. Develops baselines and projections.
- Gathers and reports FM data relevant for STARS and other sustainability initiatives, and maintains annual greenhouse gas inventory.
- Facilitates involvement of staff, students, professors, and community members.
- Obtains, analyzes and reports on data relative to any aspect of FM including operational, financial, environmental, and social implications of programs and strategies.
- Supervises staff including student interns.
Minimum Qualifications:
Bachelor’s degree in a related area or equivalency (2 years related work experience may be substituted for 1 year of education). Four to six years of progressively more responsible management experience. Background knowledge of hiring department’s area of specialization in order to analyze, plan and draw conclusions for recommendations to superiors. Demonstrated leadership skills in planning and directing employees and processes in order to effectively monitor and develop subordinates and to ensure the smooth operation of department. Master’s degree in a related area may be preferred.

Preferences:
- Master’s Degree in Environmental Science, Environmental Management, Business Administration or related field

- Broad knowledge of sustainability concepts and practices
- Experience in identifying, developing, and implementing sustainable programs and practices
- Experience managing projects to timely completion and within budget.
- Experience in research, analysis and reporting of complex problems

- Strong analytical and logical problem solving skills
- Strong interpersonal and collaboration skills with the ability to develop relationships with individuals at all levels of the organization
- Organizational skills to manage multiple assignments, priorities, and projects in a highly demanding business environment

- Ability to inspire others to action
