General Summary of Position:
In line with the sustainability goals established in the university’s 2020 Strategic Plan, the Office of Sustainability seeks qualified applicants to deliver a sustainability and climate change focused freshmen seminar for the duration of the fall 2016 semester. There will be an average of one to three seminars per week, for the fall and spring semesters. Training on specific content and delivery style will be provided in advance of engagement with the student body.
The part time Sustainability Seminar Moderator will demonstrate a passion for sustainability and a clear understanding of the issues around climate change. S/He will primarily be responsible for delivering a core presentation that will be developed by UMass Lowell’s Office of Sustainability and Climate Change Initiative. S/He will provide sustainability education and climate change literacy through engaged instruction that will enable freshmen students to gain a thorough understanding of sustainability and climate change issues and challenges. The position requires the ability to facilitate meaningful learning and discussion of the competencies around both issues. Familiarity with existing sustainability programs at UMass Lowell is required.

Minimum Qualifications:
Master’s degree or demonstrated sustainability/climate change work experience strongly preferred
- Strong educational background in a sustainability related discipline
- Ability to clearly and confidently deliver presentations to large groups
- The ability to work effectively with diverse groups
- Experience with a diverse student body
- Knowledge of UMass Lowell’s sustainability programs and initiatives
