We are currently recruiting for a GIS Technician. An employee in this classification provides technical skills to Information Technology Department clients for the use of GIS technologies. Work involves delivering services and products that optimize the use of GIS technology to the highest benefit of the County. The GIS Technician may include any or all of the essential functions listed below. Work is applied to complex situations and projects, is primarily intellectual in nature, and results in creative and varied solutions while maintaining a County-wide perspective.
- Deliver technical skills and products in Applied Geographic Information System Technology areas. Address customers’ information needs by developing GIS technology solutions and supporting information and technology systems on multiple computing platforms.
- Perform field data collection and GPS work.
- Modify GIS databases.
- Solve GIS information technology problems and tasks proactively.
- Make determination and decisions on data correction and accuracy for the project or end product.
- Conduct quality control procedures on the products created for the clients and develops information documenting the product.
- Construct projects and data consistent with County GIS standards and integrate data into the County systems.
An Associate of Arts or Associate of Science degree, in education, computer sciences, engineering, geography or related field and two or more years of GIS mapping using ESRI software, related field work or applied use of GIS technology experience OR any equivalent combination of experience and education is required.
SPECIAL REQUIREMENTS AND/OR QUALIFICATIONS: A valid Washington State driver’s license may be required when travel is required of the position.
Fingerprint and in-depth criminal history check may be required. Individuals who have been convicted of crimes (which includes a deferred sentence) involving dishonesty, fraud, theft, robbery, assault, homicide, drugs, DUI, disorderly conduct, and computer crimes within the last ten years may not meet the recruiting requirements for this position.
