Ecological Restoration Crew Leader Primary duties include training and supervising crew members; interpreting and implementing restoration planting plans; scheduling crews and maintaining crew time sheets; loading and delivering plants, supplies, tools and equipment; tracking and maintaining tools and equipment; providing progress updates and brief written final reports Projects may include any of the following activities: weed removal; installing jute netting; applying soil and mulch; laying out plants on-site; planting container and bareroot plants and live cuttings; installing fascines and other bioengineering measures; installing ground cloth and browse protectors; hand-watering plants; mowing with brush trimmers; and photographing project sites.
Typical projects include: planting steep slopes and marine bluffs, sometimes working on ropes; planting disturbed wetlands and buffers; stabilizing and replanting eroding stream banks; replanting cleared critical area buffer zones; and enhancing native vegetation in conservation easements and natural areas.
Required qualifications: Ecological restoration field experience Ability to identify common native plants Ability to work independently Supervisory skills Ability to work on rough terrain in inclement weather Drivers license Good communication skills, positive attitude and willingness to learn Desired qualifications: Tree or rock climbing experience/comfortable working with ropes and gear Pesticide applicator license Mechanical aptitude First-aid training Flexible work schedule
This is a permanent position with variable hours depending on work load; hours typically vary from 24 to 40 hours per week. Initial training will be provided. Starting wage: $18.00 – 20.00 per hour DOQ. Benefits: annual leave, paid holidays, retirement plan. Position is open until filled.
