Hourly Wage: $22.59-$25.91/Regular/Full-Time
Location: Wahkiacus, WA
Works as a core team member of the Klickitat Watershed Enhancement Project (KWEP). Makes technical assessments of stream and watershed conditions and provides technical guidance and oversight for design and construction of rehabilitation projects in the Klickitat River sub-basin on and off reservation. Assists project development, budgeting, implementation, and monitoring.
Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:
Understanding of watershed hydrology, fluvial geomorphology, channel dynamics, sediment transport, and the influence of vegetation on stream behavior and fish habitat.
Knowledge and experience applying hydrologic principles and watershed processes.
Knowledge and demonstrated expertise of hydraulic principles and their relationship to fish habitat requirements.
Knowledge and demonstrated expertise in the use of Geographic Information Systems to inform geomorphic and watershed evaluations, conduct mapping, and manage spatial data. Experience with ArcGIS required.
Working knowledge of computer techniques in hydrology and hydraulics.
Knowledge of the principles of water resources planning
Knowledge of riparian, forest and arid ecosystems and familiarity with contemporary literature on watershed analysis and ecosystem management.
Ability to plan and conduct studies relating riverine hydrology, fluvial geomorphology, and riparian vegetation.
Ability to prepare written technical reports, reviews, articles, and instructional materials.
Ability to analyze, design, develop, implement and evaluate technical projects.
Knowledge of hydrography, geomorphology, and life histories of anadromous and resident fishes of the Klickitat Subbasin.
Knowledge and experience of watershed and fisheries habitat restoration principles.
Knowledge and experience with specialized equipment and analytical tools used in hydrology and habitat evaluation, including: ADCP, ADV, structure-from-motion, total station, and GPS.
Knowledge and willingness to engage in project planning, budgeting and management.
Ability to make effective oral and written presentations to technical and non-technical audiences.
Sensitivity to Tribal culture and values, and the ability to work with and bring together individuals from diverse cultural and professional backgrounds.
Ability to handle difficult private and public situations with firmness, tact and courtesy.
Demonstrated expertise ability to plan, organize, evaluate and control the work of professional, technical and clerical subordinates.
Ability to travel and to work outdoors under various weather conditions, and to perform physical labor.
General Recruiting Indicators:
A master’s degree in fluvial geomorphology, hydrology, water resources, engineering (with strong hydrology component), or closely related field (with strong hydrology component) or A Bachelor’s of Science in one of the above fields and two years’ experience in the field of hydrology.
Special Requirements:
Possession of or ability to obtain a valid Washington State Driver’s License and Yakama Nation driver’s permit.
Required to pass a pre-employment drug and alcohol test.
Yakama enrolled preference.
