Job Summary

Responsible for advising on environmental issues related to road construction and maintenance activities.

Assesses environmental conditions, prepares mitigation options, monitors compliance with environmental regulations, and applies for permits and grants.

Examples of Duties

Monitors compliance with environmental regulations, prepares SEPA checklists, wetland delineation, and biological assessments. Provides advice on appropriate environmental impact mitigation for various county projects. Prepares information and secures local, State and Federal permits needed to carry out new construction, routine road operation and emergency work. Identifies project impacts and prepares mitigation plans. Monitors construction sites and prepares reports as required by resource or regulatory agencies. Provides adaptive management assistance on construction and maintenance projects. Works regularly and effectively with Tribes, Conservation Districts, salmon recovery groups, regulatory agencies, and citizens. May be assigned as Project Manager for specific projects and may serve as public works representative for coordinating work efforts with outside agencies, other county departments, and advisory committees.

Minimum Requirements

Any equivalent combination of education and experience, which provides the applicant with the knowledge, skills, and abilities required to perform the job. A typical way to obtain the knowledge and abilities would be:

-Bachelor’s degree in natural resources or environmental sciences, fisheries or wildlife biology, ecology,

hydrology, or closely related field.

-Two years of professional environmental experience and six months field experience preferably in

public sector.

Requires knowledge of applicable Federal, State, and local regulations and ability to apply manuals and guidelines. Requires the ability to utilize a personal computer and related software programs to successfully perform essential functions of the position.

Valid Washington State Driver’s License or appropriate driving accommodations.
