A cleanup of the information contained in our services would increase the ease of use for the user community. We also need data dictionaries defined to enable better information sharing with Socrata Open Data. The metadata and data dictionaries can also be used to feed into national data inventory applications such as NSGIC’s GIS Inventory (https://www.gisinventory.net/).

Detailed Description of Duties:
Contact data owners for data contained in FirstMap’s services and complete a pre-defined list of questions. Write up descriptions based on the answers to the questions and review them with the data owners. Update the metadata for the services through ArcGIS Desktop.

Qualifications/Experience Required:
• Good writing skills
• Basic knowledge of GIS
• Self-motivated
• Basic understanding of metadata and data dictionaries.
• Team player
• ArcGIS Desktop preferred (but not required

Comments:
Rough estimate of the level of effort would be several hours per service to contact the data owners, write up the data and perform the updates. With over 200 map services, this amounts to about 600 hours. Time can also be utilized to learn how to use ArcGIS Online web maps and applications.
