THE ROLE
Oversee daily operations of Household Hazardous Waste Collection Facility (HHWCF), including mobile collection from homes and neighborhood drop off sites, and Waste Acceptance Control Program (WACP) solid waste loadchecking program. Perform other duties as assigned related to the operation of the San Francisco Household Hazardous Waste Collection Facility, new hazardous waste collection programs, expanded producer responsibility initiatives, complying with new regulations. Reports to San Francisco Regional Environmental Manager.
ESSENTIAL RESPONSIBILITIES INCLUDE, AND ARE NOT LIMITED TO:
- Oversee all operations associated with the HHWCF and WACP.
- Ensure compliance with Federal, State, and local regulations, including the Operating Agreement with the San Francisco Department of the Environment (SFE) and HHWCF Operations Plan.
- Ensure timely delivery of staff-prepared reports and data as required by SFE, CalRecycle, DTSC, and other public agencies.
- Arrange and manage safety and training programs for HHWCF and WACP staff.
- Oversee HHWCF budget, allocation of resources, and staffing.
- Collaborate with SFE and the Northern California HHW Information Exchange to identify ways to improve hazardous waste collection programs and operations to meet changing needs, priorities, and government regulations.
- Responsible for hiring and managing work activities of HHWCF and WACP technicians and drivers.
- Coordinate with SFE outreach and public information efforts related to existing and new HHW Programs.
- Maintain regular and effective communication with Recology San Francisco regional companies and other necessary company personnel.
- Coordinate staffing and resources for G3 and special neighborhood hazardous waste collection events.
QUALIFICATIONS
Any combination of education and experience that would likely provide the required knowledge, skills and abilities is qualifying. A typical way to qualify is:
Education and Experience
- Bachelor’s degree. (Chemistry, environmental science, management or related discipline preferred)
- Minimum of 3 years’ experience in the hazardous waste, solid waste, or related field (household hazardous waste experience is preferred)
- Minimum of 5years experience supervising employees (experience supervising employees in a union work environment preferred)
- Working knowledge of computer programs, including: MS Suite (Word, Excel, Power Point, etc.)
- Good written and oral communication skills in English.
- Must be well organized and able to plan and execute projects.
- Must have valid California driver’s license.
