The Department of Neighborhoods is seeking an undergraduate college intern to support projects in the Community Liaisons program. This will include various administrative tasks, conducting phone calls and scheduling, looking up demographic data for neighborhood projects, creating one-pagers and other documents about the program, creating reports and spreadsheets, participating in interdepartmental team meeting and community events and, meeting with Community Liaisons to understand the issues they are hearing about in the community, and other as needed items.

Educational Benefit to Student:
The intern will support the outreach and engagement efforts of the Community Liaisons program. This includes meeting with new community members and helping to identify resources that would be useful for them.  There will be opportunity to explore past and current models of engagement, and best practices for engagement with historically under-served communities in Seattle. There will also be opportunity to learn about the Race and Social Justice Initiative and City government, as well as how the community is impacted by our engagement investments. By being housed in the new Leadership Development Division in the Department of Neighborhoods, the intern will learn about the many community capacity and leadership programs we have at the City, and how they interface with the needs of communities in Seattle.

 Qualifications:
Minimum Qualifications:

Education:

Must be enrolled in an accredited educational program preferably studying:  public policy, social work, liberal arts, or a similar field with a nexus to working with historically under-served communities..

Undergraduate interns must maintain a satisfactory GPA of 2.0 or higher for the duration of the internship.

Experience:

  • Strong writing skills
  • Good interpersonal skills
  • Customer service experience – fielding phone and email inquiries
  • General administrative experience in an office setting – data entry, word processing, creating spreadsheets and presentations

Desired Qualifications:

  • Foreign language skills
 Additional Information:
Start/End Dates:  Intern will start in early to mid January, 2018 and end in winter quarter, with a possibility of an extension.

Schedule:  Intern will work 10-15 hours/week.  Work hours can be scheduled between 9:00 a.m. and 5:00 p.m. and may work some weekends and/or evenings.

Salary:  Undergraduates will be paid $16.12/hour. Graduates will be paid $19.76/hour.
