A Watershed Inspector inspects watershed property, promotes and enforces environmental sanitation/protection programs and proper logging and forestry practices. Inspectors also implement programs designed to maintain and protect drinking water quality including wildlife and fisheries programs, and utility infrastructure protection. Inspectors work as a team, and also work alone in remote areas. Position may come in contact with hostile or abusive members of the public. The watershed is located 13 miles northeast of the city of Enumclaw, WA. Inspectors must be able to respond to emergencies at the watershed within 40 minutes.

- An equivalent combination to two years of advanced-level training including courses in water quality, utility operations and maintenance, forestry, engineering, law enforcement, environmental science or closely related field; and three years of related experience.
LICENSES, CERTIFICATES AND OTHER REQUIREMENTS
The following are required by the end of the probationary period and must be maintained throughout appointment: Washington State Concealed Weapons Permit, City’s Use of Force Policy Certification, annual successful completion of the 32 hours of Defensive Tactics Training, qualification with an accredited firearms course approved by Tacoma Water, and a Class “A” Washington State Commercial Drivers License. A Washington State Herbicide Applicator’s License may be required. Training as required by the Process Safety Management Plan and the Risk Management Plan will be required.

Appointment is subject to passing a background check which will include a pre-employment medical exam, physical abilities test, drug screen, and may include a psychological exam. This position is covered by a Labor Agreement between the City of Tacoma and Local 483. An employee in this position will be required to join the union within 30 days of hire. New employees must successfully complete a nine-month probationary period prior to obtaining permanent status in this classification.

Other Employment Information
Direct Deposit: Employees are paid on a bi-weekly schedule by direct deposit.
Salary Increases: Based on satisfactory job performance, the City provides for a regular progression of salary increases for most classifications according to the salary schedule.
Union Affiliation: Many job classifications are covered by union security provisions which require union membership, dues, or payment of equivalent service fees.
