Ecologist / Wetland Scientist

Our Environmental Services practice area performs environmental consulting services for a variety of industries, including Utilities, Financial Services, Oil & Gas, Manufacturing, Mining, Petro-Chemical, Industrial, Commercial, Water & Wastewater Treatment, and Land Development. We are currently seeking an Ecologist / Wetland Scientist for a position reporting to the Oklahoma City office.

This position will require approximately 70% field work and 30% office work. Fieldwork consists of Section 404 delineations and reconnaissance level assessments of wetlands and waters of the US, Threatened and Endangered species surveys and habitat assessments, assistance with various types of permitting projects, preparation of reports, and collection and management of GPS data.

Good physical conditioning is required for this position. Applicant must be able to work in adverse weather conditions and be comfortable in remote job locations. Position may require walking up to 7 or 8 miles a day. Office work typically consists of writing reports for projects that have been evaluated in the field or descriptions based on available maps and aerial photographs. Travel is generally within Oklahoma and surrounding states but may extend beyond this range. Overnight travel on short notice is possible.

 

As a qualified candidate, you will have the above experience and meet the below requirements:

Bachelor degree in Ecology, Botany, Biology, Zoology, or closely related field

Four or more years of verifiable direct work experience

Knowledge on regulatory requirements and permitting

In-depth knowledge of local ecosystems

Expertise with local flora and ability to use diagnostic keys

ESA Section 10 permit is a plus

Ability to work within a team or independently

Good technical writing and verbal communication skills

Proficient with MS Word, Excel, and PowerPoint

GIS experience is a plus

Existing relationships with relevant agencies (USACE, USFWS, DEQ)

Good driving record

Ability to travel; duration of travel may vary depending on project and client needs, ranging from a few days to a few weeks.
