Position Title:

Sustainability Coordinator

Job Description:This entry-level position is responsible for developing sustainability related policies, standards and guidelines. Provides close collaboration with the entire campus community, overall management of the sustainability office, including student staffing, consultant oversight, volunteers and committees. Acts as the primary representative and expert for internal and external relations in the area of institutional sustainability. Develops and maintains sustainable master plan while working closely with entire campus community to translate and facilitate environmental sustainability into policies, practices and curriculum activities. The Coordinator will work closely with the university’s administration, students, faculty, staff, alumni, as well as city/county and state agencies.

Responsibilities:

  • Develop and implement the university’s sustainability master plan in support of the university’s mission and strategic plan;
  • Provide ongoing engagement / service-learning / volunteering programs and activities relevant to the sustainability master plan;
  • Develop various programming around all sustainability topics including but not limited to energy, water, waste, recycling, transportation;
  • A main focus will be marketing and education of Mines and local community around various sustainability issues, such as sustainable curriculum, waste diversion, energy management, sustainable purchasing;
  • Responsible for researching various grant opportunities to support programs projects;
  • Develop and coordinate promotional activities such as website management, social media, visual communications, newsletters and other promotional materials and publications;
  • Manage the recruitment and management of student team members;
  • Represent Mines sustainability programs to the public; maintain liaison with groups, programs, offces and/or departments to achieve sustainability objectives;
  • Monitor and evaluate program effectiveness, and implement modifications to improve programs.

Minimum Qualifications:

  • Earned Bachelor’s degree in Environmental Studies, Sustainability, or related field
  • Demonstrated substantial and progressive responsibility in understanding of environmental, economic, and social issues related to sustainability to include, but not limited to; energy, water, transportation, education, waste, recycling, etc.
  • Experience developing sustainability programs and corresponding performance indicators
  • Excellent communication skills (written and oral), customer service skills and interpersonal skills in order to effectively communicate with all levels of stakeholders and leadership
  • Excellent attention to detail and experience collecting and organizing data from various sources
  • Experience delivering engaging verbal presentations and tailor written communications for a variety of purposes
  • Experience preparing and presenting findings and recommendations from analytical studies into concise spreadsheets, written reports, or oral presentations
  • Advanced computer proficiency with Windows based or other similar software packages involving: spreadsheets, databases, word processing, and presentation applications, including experience working with large and complex data sets.

Preferred Qualifications:Experience working with stakeholder engagement and/or sustainability activities, preferably in a university or educational environment

Experience at the system or institutional level with a working knowledge of:

  • Campus/university organizational structures.
  • University administrative policies and procedures.
  • Grant proposal writing and/or other external funding development efforts.
  • Experience in the development of marketing materials for print, electronic, media to include websites and social media.

Compensation:

Starting salary range is anticipated to be $45,000 – $55,000, taking into account the qualifications of the selected applicant balanced with departmental budget availability and internal salary equity considerations.
