The City of Lacey is accepting applications for two intern positions in the Water Resources Division of our Public Works Department.

*Open until filled – applications will be reviewed upon receipt.

The Water Resources Division plans and implements programs relating to drinking water, wastewater, and stormwater in Lacey. The work involves system mapping, electronic operation and maintenance manual web design and development, completing individual projects, reviewing technical material, compiling and analyzing data, assisting with engineering related tasks, and administrative support tasks as needed.

This is an excellent opportunity to learn about water/wastewater/stormwater systems and the elements involved in operating and designing these systems. As an intern, you will:
•Begin to bridge the gap between theoretical study and the professional world.
•Find out exactly what engineers do in the workplace.
•Work with professionals who can take your classroom experience and adapt it to the workplace.

Working hours are generally between 8:00 a.m. and 5:00 p.m., up to a maximum of 16 hours per week. Chosen work hours are flexible based on the student’s class schedule.

Area(s) of study: Must be a current Engineering, Hydrogeology, or Computer Science student (or a student in a closely related program)
.•Currently enrolled in a post-secondary educational program leading to an undergraduate or graduate degree.
•In good standing at their college or university. Students must retain their status until the end of the internship. In some cases, students may be enrolled in technical certificate programs in particular fields relevant to the City’s business objectives.
•Students may work during the summer without being enrolled; however they must be returning to school and pre-registered for the fall term.
•Considering a profession related to some aspect of the City’s business objectives. Generally, interns should be advanced enough in their educational programs to have begun taking courses in a field related to their work at the City. However, in some cases, previous work experience or education may substitute for their current academic program of study.

This is an excellent opportunity to learn about water/wastewater/stormwater systems and the elements involved in operating and designing these systems. As an intern, you will:
-Begin to bridge the gap between theoretical study and the professional world.
-Find out exactly what engineers do in the workplace.
-Work with professionals who can take your classroom experience and adapt it to the workplace.
