Position Summary
Works with all City Departments in the development and maintenance of Geographical Information Services (GIS) data.
Starting Salary: $44,621 going up to $45,067 starting October 1, 2018
Essential Functions
- Participates in the collection of raw data for input into GIS; performs data conversion, and organization of data; manipulates data to generate reports, maps, and other technical documents.
- Responds to mapping and information requests by City employees, private companies, and other governmental agencies, as required.
- Utilizes GIS system in generating a variety of maps, charts, data and related materials for assignments.
- Updates and maintains various datasets using GIS software. Edits and modifies database layers.
- Researches and interprets engineering construction plans, plats, legal metes, and bounds descriptions and various mapped information; extracts relevant information for data entry; performs various calculations and computations.
- Performs quality checks on GIS data.
- Performs all other related duties as assigned.
Minimum Qualifications
Education
Associates Degree or equivalent in computer Science, Engineering, Geography, Math, Urban Planning or related field is required.
Experience
Two years experience in a municipal government GIS environment.
REQUIRED SKILLS & ABILITIES
Knowledge of:
- Knowledge of Environmental Systems Research Institute (ESRI) Software; (or other major GIS software programs).
- Knowledge of current versions of spreadsheets, word processing, database management, and graphics software in a Windows environment.
- Knowledge of Geographic Information System concepts, design methods, procedures, techniques and methodology; complex principles and practices of record keeping; algebra, geometry, and trigonometry as applied to routine GIS computations.
- Knowledge of the workings of a variety of office equipment including plotters, large format scanners, computers and peripheral equipment and printers.

Skills:
Skill in use of personal computer including Microsoft Office, Open Office or similar word processing programs, e-mail and the internet
