The Opportunity:
WSDOT has an exciting opportunity to fill two Planner positions in our Seattle office. These positions support transportation and corridor planning studies and projects, WSDOT’s Corridor Sketch Initiative, and other Management of Mobility division programs and activities.
The incumbents will support a diverse team in the development of corridor and transportation studies and gather, analyze, and use planning data to identify performance gaps, assess alternative corridor improvements, and facilitate cost-effective strategies and solutions.

This position will perform the following work:
- Gather, analyze, and use planning data.
- Identify current and future performance gaps, assess alternative corridor improvements, identify short-, mid-, and long-term cost-effective multimodal strategies and solutions, support community engagement.
- Prepare for and attend stakeholder meetings, public outreach efforts, and document study information.
- Update the corridor sketch database, draft, edit, review corridor sketch summary reports.
- Participate in multidisciplinary, multimodal, and multi-agency collaboration and coordination efforts; evaluate corridor improvement strategies and solutions.
- Draft, edit, summary reports; and in general advances corridor sketch efforts.
- Others duties as assigned.
An ideal candidate for this particular position will also bring the following skills and experience:
- Ability to communicate with diverse audiences, verbally and in written format, and present complex information to large and small groups.
- Extensive knowledge of State and Federal transportation policies, procedures, and requirements.
- Understanding of land use planning.
- Valid and active Driver’s License
- Bachelor’s degree involving major study in transportation; landscape architecture; environmental, urban, or land use planning; engineering; public or business administration; economics, biology, natural or physical sciences; or public policy or administration AND Three years’ professional experience involving data collection, analysis, research and/or evaluation of issues and problems. Note: A master’s degree in one of the above fields will substitute for two year of the required experience OR At least one year as a Transportation Planning Specialist 2, Transportation Engineer 2, Landscape Designer 2, or equivalent classification in city or county agencies OR Equivalent education/experience.
