Invasive Species Program Coordinator

The St. Croix River Association (SCRA) seeks an Invasive Species Program Coordinator to lead our established Invasive Species program. Someone with a strong commitment to healthy watersheds and to solving environmental problems through partnerships, and a passion for rivers will find this an appealing appointment. SCRA is the official nonprofit partner of the St. Croix National Scenic Riverway. We work throughout the watershed to protect this national park that flows through its heart.

Position Summary

The Invasive Species Coordinator is responsible for the overall coordination of SCRA’s Invasive Species program. The coordinator must be adept at creating and sustaining an active network of partners for prevention and control of invasive species. This position is primarily carried out in an office type setting (70%) with some work in the field (30%).

CORE RESPONSIBILITIES:

Lead and coordinate the implementation of the St. Croix Watershed Aquatic Invasive Species Management Plan
Build, strengthen and maintain partnerships with key watershed stakeholders to complement and enhance local and regional efforts and projects
Collaborate on projects and programs with diverse partners including government and tribal agencies, non-profits, lake associations, watershed districts, businesses and other regional stakeholders
Conduct invasive species education and outreach through a variety of outlets such as public presentations, press releases, editorials, reports, social media and events
Serve as a resource and provide information to the many and varied river-user groups regarding aquatic species threats and impacts
Recruit, train, supervise, and evaluate seasonal Invasive Species interns and volunteers
Maintain detailed, accurate and timely accomplishment and budget reports to fulfill multiple grant requirements.
Pursue additional sources of funding to support program activities and new ideas.
Carry out invasive species detection and monitoring activities, which may include boat inspections, survey work, and detection sampling.
Other duties as assigned

QUALIFICATIONS:

Bachelor’s degree in relevant field (conservation, natural resources, environmental education, environmental studies, parks and recreation, etc.)

Excellent verbal and writing skills, with the ability to communicate effectively with a diverse audience
Experience effectively and cooperatively coordinating projects with multiple stakeholders
Familiarity with grant application procedures, administration, and reporting
Ability to track and report relevant data and project results
Experience with aquatic and terrestrial invasive species identification, monitoring, control and management
Excellent computer skills, with  Microsoft office, Global Positioning System (GPS) and ArcGIS software proficiency
Able to self-manage time and assignments, capable of working under pressure while managing multiple tasks and deadlines and highly developed organizational skills
Must have car and valid driver’s license, and be able to work evenings and weekends as needed

PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS:

Ability to move and work on all types of uneven surfaces, and  both inside and outside environmental conditions
Experience with boats  or kayaks/ canoes, or ability to learn
Ability to lift up to 50 pounds
