Responsibilities
- Collaborate and coordinate with leadership team develop a vision for camp and teen programming in alignment with the Mass Audubon vision and strategic goals.
- Create innovative, nature-based camp programming that helps nurture the next generation of environmental stewards, while fostering a positive and inclusive culture that supports all of our campers and program participants.
- Hire, train and supervise all camp and vacation program staff, and create a system of professional development that supports their development as future educators and environmental professionals. Help to foster a positive network of camp staff that stays connected throughout the year.
- Develop and maintain systems that ensure the physical and emotional safety of all campers and camp staff.
- Ensure compliance with Mass Audubon policies and all applicable regulations, and maintain accreditation with ACA and local licensors.
- Communicate with participant families to foster a warm camp community, and ensure a positive, open dialogue about health, safety, and other issues as they arise.
- With the assistance of the Mass Audubon marketing staff, oversee all marketing for the camp, including social media presence, and ensure growing enrollment in camp and teen programs.
- Serve as a lead member of the Drumlin Farm education team, working together to develop and implement state-of-the-art environmental education opportunities and teaching practices.
- In collaboration with Mass Audubon staff, develop strong community partnerships, and maintain a positive presence in the local community throughout the year.
- Keep appropriate records including state regulatory requirements, schedules, business office forms (payroll time slips, expense forms, etc.), and submit accurate reports to supervisors as necessary.
- Participate in sanctuary-wide special events throughout the year.
- Assume other duties as they may arise, as requested by supervisor.\
Qualifications
- Bachelor’s degree in education and/or environmental education/outdoor recreation, environmental science/studies, biology, non-profit management or related field or equivalent work experience.
- Three to five years’ experience leading an environmental or nature-based camp. Experience and confidence in effective and supportive supervision of staff, development of vision and strategy for program, financial management, regulatory compliance, and risk mitigation for a large camp program.
- Demonstrated leadership and project management skills, including ability to juggle multiple priorities and respond to emergent situations in a timely, calm and effective manner.
- Ability to inspire staff and develop a strong working team.
- Strong oral and written communication skills, including excellent listening and collaborative problem solving skills.
- Experience developing and implementing program plans and budgets.
- Ability to relate to a diverse range of people and exercise cultural humility and inclusion.
- Computer skills including word processing and spreadsheets.
- Passion for the mission of Mass Audubon.
- Successful candidates must pass a CORI, SORI, and driver’s record check and successfully complete First Aid and CPR Certification upon hire. Valid driver’s license.
