DESCRIPTION
The Oregon State Police is seeking a Geographic Information Specialist (GIS) to join the team! This is a full time position with the Oregon State Police (OSP) supporting the Office of State Fire Marshal in Salem at General Headquarters.
This is a full-time position that is classified and represented by the American Federation of State, County and Municipal Employees (AFSCME).
Duties & Responsibilities
What will you be doing?
As a Geographic Information Specialist – a newly created position at OSP – you will be developing GIS infrastructure for the Office of State Fire Marshal (OSFM); translating statewide data on fires into a visual story; leading a GIS workgroup for the OSFM’s Incident Management Teams; and connecting stakeholders and GIS professionals to the OSFM and its mapping and data services.

Qualifications, Required & Requested Skills
To be considered for this position you must meet the following minimum qualifications
- Four years of information systems experience in GIS
- Associate’s degree substitutes for two years of experience.
- Two year accredited vocational training program substitutes for two years of information systems experience in GIS
- Bachelor’s degree substitutes for all of the experience.
If using education to meet the Minimum Qualifications, transcripts may be requested at the time of interview.
Preferred Skills
We are also looking for candidates with a work history that demonstrates skill with the following:
- Experience with using GIS
- Experience working for or supporting an emergency services organization
- Experience in leading committees and collaborative, multi-agency workgroups
- Experience with Microsoft SQL Server
- Experience managing projects
