In collaboration with the Connecticut Director of Philanthropy, the Institutional Giving Manager is responsible for maximizing institutional giving and contributing to the overall fundraising budget and philanthropy plan of The Trust for Public Land. The Institutional Giving Manager is expected to realize annual fundraising goals established for the position.
This position is responsible for a portfolio of foundations (including family foundations as appropriate) and corporations currently giving or capable of giving gifts in Connecticut and the Newark-metro area. Responsibilities include managing an active donor portfolio, collaborating with internal partners to set and implement strategy, and solicitation to meet philanthropy revenue targets. Additional responsibilities include conducting donor visits, stewardship, and identifying, cultivating, and soliciting new foundation and corporate prospects. The Trust for Public Land has strong relationships with local, regional, and national foundations that are part of this position’s portfolio.

Essential Functions:
Portfolio Management: Manage and grow an existing portfolio of local relationships and place-based grants. Identify new foundation and corporate prospects. Develop effective strategies for cultivation, solicitation, and stewardship. Maintain donor records and track actions to solicitation in donor database. Conduct visits with foundation and corporate decision-makers. Make direct solicitations and close gifts. Write proposals, case statements, and reports. Develop proposal budgets and financial reports. Coordinate and implement donor recognition. Track and meet deadlines. Monitor grant payments. Engage other staff members and volunteers in fundraising efforts.
Communications and Donor Relations: Provide writing and other support for the Director of Philanthropy and other philanthropy staff to include crafting and refining proposals, case statements, and stewardship reports, as well as cultivation and solicitation materials, and other collateral materials as directed. Maintain existing donor relationships. Plan and implement regular communications to donors, including broadcast e-mail updates and mailings, and provide relevant local content for use with the organization’s annual giving program, website, social media, and other publications and collateral materials.

Qualifications
Bachelor’s degree required
3-5 experience in non-profit fundraising
Experience writing grant proposals, letters, reports or similar materials
Experience and proficiency using fundraising databases, Microsoft Office, and in conducting research
Ability to write and edit grant proposals, letters of inquiry, interim and final reports, stewardship materials, and other collateral information
Ability to understand organization’s finances and financial systems; and coordinate with finance staff to develop budgets
Self-motivated; ability to multi-task with excellent attention to detail and deadlines; and can perform successfully without regular supervision
Familiarity with best practices around gift acceptance policies and ethical compliance, as defined by the Association for Fundraising Professionals
Ability to function effectively as a member of a team, ensuring close coordination and integration with other staff members
Interest and commitment to The Trust for Public Land mission
Knowledge of relevant foundation and corporate donors desired
Willingness to work flexible hours
Willingness to travel occasionally
