The Rio Grande Headwaters Land Trust (RiGHT) seeks an energetic and motivated Stewardship Coordinator to manage on-going conservation easement stewardship and to work within our community to inspire a culture of conservation and connect people to our amazing natural resources in the San Luis Valley. RiGHT is a 19-year-old non-profit organization whose mission is “Conserving Our Land, Water and Way of Life in Colorado’s San Luis Valley.” Most of our work is using conservation easements to protect and support the working ranches and farms, water resources, wildlife habitat and scenic landscapes of the San Luis Valley in south-central Colorado; however, we’re interested in expanding our toolbox and trying new things.

Duties and Responsibilities:

Maintain excellent communication and positive relationships with landowners of RiGHT’s conserved properties;

Conduct annual easement monitoring of RiGHT’s existing conserved properties;

Keep complete and up-to-date records, files, reports, and documentation of land conservation projects (sorry, somebody’s got to do it!);

Maintain RiGHT’s Certification with the Colorado Division of Real Estate and re-accreditation with the Land Trust Alliance

Talk about RiGHT’s work and what makes the San Luis Valley such an amazing place;

Help develop ideas of how to make a more obvious positive impact in our community;

Work with the Conservation Director to address stewardship issues;

Assist with the review and development of new land protection inquiries;

Help write and edit grants for conservation easements and related project funding;

Participate in the Board and Land and Policy Committee meetings to set land protection policies and guidelines, and;

Perform other administrative, communication, fundraising, events and organizational tasks in collaboration with other staff members and consultants.

Job Requirements:

Desire to live and work in a rural, agricultural landscape (with wonderful, uncrowded public lands right out your back door!)

Willingness to be part of a team with shared decision-making and responsibilities

Occasionally working on weekends and evenings

Ability to traverse varied terrain on foot and possibly in inclement weather

Valid driver’s license and a licensed, insured vehicle

Qualifications:

Connects with and can understand the needs of diverse stakeholders

Commitment to conservation and passion for connecting people with land

Self-starter with excellent project and time management skills

Excellent organizational and record keeping skills

Strong written, oral and interpersonal communication skills

Desire to work in the field (often alone), with plenty of windshield time

Ability to work effectively without close supervision

Computer skills, including proficiency with Microsoft Office and iPad

Bachelor’s degree, preferred in a natural resources or agriculture related field, or two years equivalent work experience

Preferred (but not required) Qualifications:

Experience working or volunteering for a land trust

Successful grant writing experience

Proficiency with ArcGIS software

Photography skills

Bilingual, Spanish-speaking

Knowledge of southern Rocky Mountain agriculture and ecology

Compensation and Application Procedure:

This is a full time position with a health care stipend and generous paid leave. Salary range is $36,000 to $40,000, depending upon experience.
