POSITION TITLE: Hatchery Operations Coordinator
START DATE: December 1, 2018
PAY: $18 per hour/part time; December 1-June 30 – extension possible

LOCATION: Willow Creek Salmon & Watershed Education Center in Edmonds; SSS office located in Lake Stevens
HOURS: 10-20 hours/week; Variable work day hours with occasional weekend work
POSITION SUMMARY: Assists with planning and coordinating salmon rearing, facility maintenance, volunteers, and administrative tasks associated educational salmon micro-hatchery operations independently, collaboratively, and under the supervision of the Executive Director. This position is primarily hatchery-based with some office work, and will require up to 20 hours per week to start. QUALIFICATIONS:
- Education and/or experience in fisheries management, fisheries biology, or similar fisheries related work
- Knowledge of salmon life histories, ecology, and biology
- Experience leading volunteers in an outdoor work setting
- Experience with supporting environmental education programs
- Demonstrated high level of personal and professional responsibility
- Strong situational awareness, attention to detail, and sense of humor
- Commitment and cooperation to work with team members
- Capacity to delegate, multi-task, and stay organized
- Experience operating and maintaining hand tools & power equipment
- Experience with light construction and/or facilities maintenance
- Knowledge of Microsoft Office programs
- Ability to work in all weather conditions and lift up to 50lbs
- Valid Driver’s License, insurance, and acceptable driving record
- Must be able to pass a background check to work with children and volunteers
POSITION TASKS:
- Oversee and coordinate educational micro-hatchery coho rearing and release operations with volunteers.
- Track and coordinate hatchery operations facility and equipment maintenance.
- Maintain hatchery records to ensure compliance with WDFW permit.
- Coordinate & lead volunteer work parties at WCSWEC.
- Support WCSWEC education programs as needed.
- Provide occasional technical assistance to salmon in the classroom programs in local Edmonds schools.
