The Parks and Recreation Department
Pierce County Parks and Recreation manages over 5,000 acres of open space, trails, developed and undeveloped parks. We provide recreational programs and community gathering spaces. The department consists of three divisions: Parks and Recreation, Administrative Services and Resource Stewardship. Our mission is to be a leader in creating livable communities by providing opportunities for people to connect with nature, learn about sustainable practices, live healthy lifestyles, and enjoy vibrant community spaces.
Position Summary
Our next successful team member will:
- Develop and prepare planning and program management documents; present information to the public, other departments, and County Officials.
- Perform research, prepare special studies, write reports, collect and analyze various statistical and/or technical data.
- Interpret local, state and federal laws, regulations and guidelines and monitor legislative changes as they relate to assigned responsibilities.
- Prepare, review and monitor the capital facilities plan which is driven by various special revenue accounts and other adopted guidelines.
- Write and present capital grant applications for park and trail system improvements.
- Complete public outreach and represent the County at public hearings or meetings and participate in committee or work group activities and the development of Master Plans and improvement studies for a variety of park amenities.

- Project Management skills including establishing goals, monitoring progress, resolving issues, and facilitating meetings.
- Strong ability to research, analyze and develop graphic and statistical presentations and reports.
- Knowledge of applicable federal, state, and local laws, regulations, policies, and procedures for related planning projects.
- Work effectively and productively with others including strong customer service skills such as handling sensitive and difficult issues with tact and patience.

Qualifications
Recruiting Requirements:
- Bachelor’s degree in planning, public administration or related field; and three years of related planning work OR any equivalent combination of education and experience.
- Must possess a valid Washington State Driver’s license, or the ability to obtain the license within 30 days of employment, or otherwise meet the travel requirements of the position.
Preferred Qualifications:
- Two or more years in local, county or state planning.
- Two or more years of experience in park planning and system management related work is desired.
- GIS experience, fluency in Excel and Powerpoint or other graphic presentation programs.
