Position Description

Redhorse has an immediate opening in our Reno, NV office. We are looking for a part time variable environmental planner with the opportunity to grow into a full-time position if the opportunity presents itself. We are a growing company and are looking for a motivated individual to join our environmental practice in support of National Environmental Policy Act (NEPA) projects. We are currently seeking an Environmental Planner to work in a dynamic, fast-paced environment with senior Redhorse staff, on multifaceted NEPA /Natural Resources permitting projects.

As an Environmental Planner, you will provide environmental permitting and natural resource assistance to a variety of projects. You will have a basic/good understanding of NEPA (and/or California Environmental Quality Act (CEQA) as needed) and environmental and land use planning to help with federal, state and local projects including environmental impact analysis support, biological and cultural assessment, water resources, and air and noise support. Primary duties will focus on collaborating with the senior staff on field work, research, report writing and QA/QC review of analytical sections of environmental documents.

 

Minimum Basic requirement for Skills, Experience, Education and Credentials:

Bachelor of Science (BS) in environmental policy, environmental planning, environmental science, or related field, and 5+ years of related experience. OR Master of Science (MS) in a natural resources science/NRM policy field or related and 3+ years of relevant experience.

Demonstrated experience and or familiarity with NEPA and/or CEQA

2+ years of experience, preferably in environmental consulting, environmental law, or working for a federal/state environmental agency and/or 2+ years of experience working with and managing NEPA and/or CEQA documents or related permitting docs

Experience with task leadership.

Experience with Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, Power Point, Outlook, Adobe)

Must have strong oral/written communication

Proven organization and project management skills

Critical thinking and decision-making skills coupled with strong analysis and problem-solving skills

Must be a self-starter, driven and able to work with limited direction under target time lines

Must have a collaborative personality and able to work effectively in a team-orientated environment

Adaptability and comfort working in a fast-paced and sometimes unstructured environment

Must have the ability to translate complex ideas into processes and tactical plans

Ability to motivate and discipline as necessary

Facilitate open communication

 

Additional Requirement for Skills, Experience, Education and Credentials:

This individual will conduct impact analyses on a variety of environmental resources, have basic skills and be eager to learn and work to ensure the success of the team.

Familiarity and knowledge of the NEPA process and assist in writing sections for NEPA and/or CEQA documents.

Demonstrable technical writing experience.

Experience conducting biological/archaeological/natural resources field work in NV/CA and navigating and collecting data using GPS technology.

Ability to work independently, productively, and collaboratively in a dynamic, fast-paced work environment with multiple deadlines and stakeholders.

Be self-motivated, efficient, and organized.

This person must be able to function well in a fast-paced, changing environment under demanding deadlines.

Excellent ability to facilitate decision making and issue resolution processes is a plus.

A working knowledge of standard office computer software (Excel, Word, PowerPoint, Access).

A working knowledge of and experience with mapping software (ArcGIS).

 

The work environment for this position requires an individual to be able to:

Must be able to successfully pass a pre-employment background investigation, which will include a check of state motor vehicle records

Must possess a valid state issued Driver’s License to operate vehicle as needed to complete work assignments

May be required to operate government-owned or leased vehicles

Field surveys may be required to be conducted in extreme climatic conditions and rapidly changing temperatures

Must be able walk over long distances and across of variety of terrains, including uneven surfaces

Must be able to use hands/fingers to handle, key, grasp or feel

Must be able to adjust to repetitive motion, reaching with hands and arms

Must be able to jump, bend, stoop, kneel, crouch and crawl

Must be able to lift and carry up to 25

Must be able to work with minimal supervision
