Overview
Dean John A. Knauss Marine Policy Fellows work for one year on congressional staff or in a federal agency, where they study, implement, and even create marine policy. Ten congressional positions and 30 or more agency positions are available each year. Washington Sea Grant may nominate up to six fellows to be considered by the National Sea Grant office.
Legislative fellows typically spend their time learning about marine-related policy issues in Congress and often get the chance to further key pieces of legislation. Executive fellows work for such agencies as NOAA, Environmental Protection Agency, National Science Foundation, State Department, Fish and Wildlife Service, and Department of Energy, often assisting in the implementation of management and conservation laws.
