The Outdoor Leadership department of the YMCA of Greater Seattle is seeking a self-starting, organized, and flexible Operations Supervisor who shares our commitment to multicultural youth development, community building, and volunteerism. The Operations Supervisors primary responsibilities are to manage the day-to-day operations of the Cascade People’s Center and to oversee trip logistics for the B.O.L.D. & G.O.L.D. (Boys Outdoor Leadership Development & Girls Outdoor Leadership Development) and YMCA Earth Service Corps programs. This individual will work from the Outdoor Leadership offices at the Cascade People’s Center in the South Lake Union area of Seattle to fulfill job duties. This is a year-round, full-time, non-exempt position that reports to the Outdoor Leadership Director.

  • Able to complete physical tasks including lifting up to 50 pounds.
  • Willingness to drive a Y Mini-bus in urban and rural settings.
  • Experience with Microsoft Suite.

Schedule: During the summer season, June-August, this position will work a Thursday-Monday schedule to support B.O.L.D. & G.O.L.D. programming. September-May will require a more traditional Monday-Friday schedule with occasional nights and weekends.

Responsibilities

  1. Create and manage relevant programming that meets the needs of the community for the Y at Cascade People’s Center.
  2. Develop and foster community partnerships.
  3. Market, schedule, and supervise space rentals.
  4. Coordinate building maintenance and improvements.
  5. Ensure compliance with City of Seattle lease agreement including public access and reporting requirements.
  6. Coordinate logistics with Outdoor Leadership office and field staff.
  7. Hire and train a team of 4-6 seasonal logisticians in coordination with B.O.L.D & G.O.L.D. Director.
  8. Manage a logistics team who aid in the delivery of B.O.L.D. & G.O.L.D. summer programming.
  9. Prepare all food and equipment for 75+ youth wilderness based expeditions.
  10. Manage the purchasing, organization, and repair of backpacking, camping, and rock climbing equipment.
  11. Manage the purchasing and organization of field-appropriate and culturally-appropriate meals.
  12. Manage expenses to meet fiscal objectives.
  13. Foster an inclusive environment for diverse staff, participants, and community members.
  14. Recruit, train and supervise volunteers in support of programming.
  15. Engage in Camping & Outdoor Leadership Branch and YMCA of Great Seattle Association initiatives.
  16. Other duties as assigned.

Qualifications

You are 21 years of age or older and should have:

  • 1-2 years of experience with children; camps, child care, tutoring, nanny, coaching
  • Previous camp experience preferred.
  • High school graduate or equivalent.
  • One or more years of college preferred.
  • 1 year + experience leading others as a supervisor or lead
  • Demonstrated experience planning and implementing group activities
  • Ability to model and demonstrate Y values; caring, respect, responsibility and honesty
  • Current state approved first aid certification
  • Current state approved CPR certification.
  • Ability to participate in activities that involve rigorous physical activity in an outdoor setting, including, but not limited to hiking, boating, camping and swimming.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Current W-EMT, WFR, WFA, or FA and CPR
  • Willingness to obtain a WA State Food Handlers Permit within 30 days of hire
  • Driver’s license with safe driving record
  • We strongly recommend all employees within Camping & Outdoor Leadership have the following vaccinations: 1) Tdap 2) MMR 3) Varicella
