I am excited to be recruiting for a funded Ph.D. student in the Department of Geography and Environmental Systems at the University of Maryland, Baltimore County for a project at the broad intersection of economic geography and digital geography. This highly-competitive offer includes funding from a combination of research and teaching assistantships and includes tuition, benefits, as well as other professional development opportunities through the Department of Geography and Environmental Systems and as part of the Graduate Student Association.
Main qualifications:
- Background in economic and/or urban geography, urban studies, (urban) sociology or related fields
- Research interests and experience in one or more of the following areas: critical/heterodox economic geography, digital technologies, re/productive labor, dead labor, automation and artificial intelligence, urban inequality, and uneven development
- Record of outstanding academic performance, excellent verbal communication, and academic writing skills
- Experience in *mixed-methods* empirical social science research methods [GIS skills a plus, but not required]
- Enthusiasm for research, publishing, and public scholarship
