The Position
Environmental Scientists perform program research, planning and development, permitting, compliance monitoring, inspections/enforcement, and technical support services in relation to air, water, waste, federal facilities, corrective action, mining, biology, and other environmental programs.
Incumbents possess a degree of knowledge and proficiency sufficient to perform work independently with little or no additional training.
The incumbent will work under the general direction of the Plant Industry Deputy Division Administrator and will coordinate and share information with state and local entities regarding water resources, drought monitoring and education to promote water conservation and management actions to prepare for severe drought conditions that affect Nevada. The incumbent will create an efficient data collection/data sharing network and data standards to facilitate and produce real time data and systems that will yield a quarterly report identifying and highlighting current on the ground conditions related to drought and water resources. The Department of Agriculture will be part of a multi-agency group responsible for information sharing and coordination of data to drive a statewide drought monitoring and water conservation program and recommendation system to be utilized by the Governor’s Office in the management of Nevada and its vegetative resources. This position will also work with other state departments to ensure that outreach and communication regarding drought monitoring, reports, recommendations, and research is accessible and available to the public and other state and federal agencies.

To Qualify:
In order to be qualified, you must meet the following requirements:
Education and Experience (Minimum Qualifications)
Bachelor’s degree in the physical, natural resource or life sciences, engineering or closely related field and eighteen months of professional environmental experience which involved environmental program research, planning, and technical support; OR eighteen months of experience as an Environmental Scientist I in Nevada State service; OR an equivalent combination of education and experience.
