Summary of PositionKeene State College’s Office of Campus Sustainability is seeking applications from individuals with a passion for sustainability and desire to work with undergraduate students and community members to fill the role of Sustainability Engagement Coordinator. The Engagement Coordinator will work closely with the Director of Campus Sustainability and the rest of KSC’s dynamic sustainability team to develop, implement, oversee, and evaluate myriad programs that will help cultivate a culture of sustainability at KSC. The Coordinator will be responsible for managing the Eco-Reps and Green Bikes student employees of the Campus Sustainability Office, as well as helping to develop outward facing programs, collaborations, and communications with all sectors of Keene State College and the City of Keene. This is a full-time, 40 hour/week position with a starting salary range of: $17.57-19.91/hr., complemented by a competitive benefits package. This position is part of the KSC Administrative Staff Association (KSCASA).

Keene State College has named sustainability as a strategic priority with the ambitious goal of attaining the Association for the Advancement of Sustainability in Higher Education (AASHESTARS Gold rating by 2020. The Sustainability Engagement Coordinator will help develop and implement a road map specifically focused on maximizing AASHE opportunities in the STARSEngagement category, both within the campus community and beyond to the broader City of Keene and Monadnock Region to ensure that KSC attains this goal.

The successful candidate will offer outstanding project/program development and management, outreach and communication, and facilitation skills. This position requires experience and passion for empowering and mentoring student employees, liaising with key community leaders and groups, and providing educational and outreach services. The ability to listen carefully, respect confidentiality, respond diplomatically, think creatively, and value collaboration is essential.

Other minimum qualificationsHigh school graduation and seven years of related experience involving duties of increasing responsibility requiring discretion and independent judgment, or Associate’s Degree and five years of related experience, or a combination of higher education and related experience equal to seven years is required. Preference will be given to candidates with a Bachelor’s degree and sufficient experience. Supervisory skills; demonstrated experience with developing outreach and engagement materials from flyers to web content and social media outreach; strong writing and public speaking, presentation, and training skills; experience facilitating groups and meetings; event planning skills; capacity to mentor students in their work; demonstrated knowledge/understanding of sustainability and climate change issues; capability of initiating new outreach and engagement programs and seeing them to completion; demonstrated ability to build collaborative relationships across campus constituents and with the broader community to further sustainability efforts; the ability to work independently but also as part of a team that may include administrative leaders and students.

Additional Preferred QualificationsMaster’s Degree in a field relevant to sustainability; 3 years progressive experience supervising undergraduate students (or equivalent); experience in a higher education environment; a strong professional demeanor, but also be flexible and willing to participate as a fun and flexible member of a team. Duty/ResponsibilityOversee the Office of Campus Sustainability Eco-Reps and Green Bikes Programs to ensure quality performance at all levels.

Responsibilities include but are not limited to:

  • Hire, train, and supervise student employees
  • Recruit and hire new students to build the Campus Sustainability Office student work force
  • Assign work to student employees and provide direction, motivation, encouragement, and empowerment
  • Provide state-of-the-art work force training and mentoring for students interested in environmental and sustainability careers (liaise with area businesses to achieve this)
  • Support Eco-Reps in engaging with Orientation and Welcome Days to educate new students about sustainability practices and policies on campus
  • Help Eco-Reps develop Res Hall and other campus programs
  • Support students in designing, marketing, and implementing campus-wide sustainability events such as the Conservation Celebration and Earth Week
  • Support students through Internships, Cap Stone projects, and other research efforts.

Work with the Director of Campus Sustainability to enhance existing and create new on-campus and off-campus (with the wider City of Keene/Monadnock Region) engagement.

Responsibilities include but are not limited to:

  • Promote sustainability across KSC and the KSC curriculum by encouraging community engagement in sustainability discourse, innovation, discovery, and practice
  • Work with student groups, such as Campus Ecology, to help them achieve their objectives
  • Liaise with academic departments such as ENSTSPDI, Architecture, and Geography to develop synergies and opportunities for collaboration (such as Ecovation Hub joint degrees and summer programs)
  • Offer guest lectures, teaching and training
  • Support campus-wide events such as Commencement and promote Green Events and sustainability
  • Develop sustainability training for new faculty and staff Orientations, as well as new training for existing faculty and staff
  • Develop a campus walking tour, interpretive signage and other outreach approaches to educate all people about sustainability at KSC
  • Work with the Sustainability Office to create campus-wide sustainability events: conservation celebrations, Earth week, and more
  • Start an Eco-Ambassador’s program for faculty and staff (modeled after the peer-to-peer education model of the Eco-Reps)
  • Help bring the Green Bikes Program from a Silver to Gold rating by the League of American Bicyclists
  • Cultivate existing local and regional strategic partnerships and identify new opportunities (e.g., Ecovation Hub)
  • Support the Director of Campus Sustainability in planning and other administrative functions
  • Participate on the President’s Council for a Sustainable Future.
  • Participate in City of Keene projects and committees.

Enhance Sustainability Outreach and Communications.

Responsibilities include but are not limited to:

  • Work with Marketing and Communications to ensure a good flow of sustainability messaging
  • Work with student Equinox reporters to ensure sustainability coverage in the campus paper
  • Ensure content for the KSC Sustainability web page is consistently refreshed and up-to-date
  • Support the Office of Campus Sustainability, Eco-Reps, and Green Bikes with their social media messaging and campaign for sustainability.
