THE POSITION

Department of Arts, Culture and History/ Kanawha County – Under the supervision of the senior archeologist, review proposed projects submitted by the WV Department of Environmental Protection, Office of Surface Mining; and other agencies for potential effects to archeological resources and compliance with Section 106 of The National Historic Preservation Act. Duties include, but are not limited to, review of project specific information and cultural resource reports; preparation of recommendation about the need for archeological survey or other field work; drafting letters stating offices comments regarding recommendations made in reviewing draft memoranda of agreement, scopes of work and or other project related documents for acceptability; participate in project related meetings and/or field visits; assist in maintaining related records such as, but not limited to, archeological site forms; assist with educational activities such as presentations, publications and other efforts; perform other related duties as may be required. Candidates must have a valid driver’s license, be willing to travel frequently, and be able to perform field work in areas and sites which do not meet ADA access standards. Performs other duties as required.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS

Training: Master’s Degree from a regionally accredited college or university in archeology or anthropology.

Substitution: Experience as described below may substitute for the required Master’s degree on a year-for-year basis.
Experience: One year of experience in archeological research activities.
