The City of Gresham is proud to announce the opening of two Confluence AmeriCorps positions (6-month). The application process has a quick two week turn around. The positions are March 2019 through August 2019.
Brief Description –
In Partnership with the Confluence Environmental Center, AmeriCorps Program, and City of Gresham is seeking two Members that will be tasked with developing and implementing an encroachment management plan. The City has identified encroachment from private to public open space to be a major issue in the City. The Parks & Recreation Division in the past has identified 481 encroachments throughout the natural area. This may include invasive plants from neighboring properties encroaching in to the natural area or neighbors dumping yard debris or building in the natural area for personal gain. In an attempt to better respond to the unique needs of the adjacent owners the City is choosing to take a proactive approach and work with homeowners to identify the best solution to remove and mediate encroachments. This may include grants, volunteer assistance, technical assistance and encroachment removal and restoration.
Members will undertake a series of tasks in order to develop the management plan including review of existing information, review of other jurisdictions response to encroachments, data collection and analysis, report writing, development of outreach materials, and direct outreach to the citizens in the city (60%).
Along with their main tasks of completing the encroachment management plan, Members will perform other activities associated to the Natural Resources program including riparian restoration, volunteer activities, city events, and professional development programs (trainings, symposiums, conference, etc.) (20%).
The Member will participate in Confluence led leadership development activities which include: Leadership Development Program, Change Agent Project, team meetings, National Service events and other self-directed development opportunities (20%).
