The Conservation Champions Donor Stewardship Manager contributes to The Trust for Public Land’s goal of generating unrestricted support for the organization through the development and management of best-practice direct marketing efforts to acquire, renew, steward, and upgrade Conservation Champion level donors ($2,000 or more annually). Conducts individual donor discovery, and recommends, implements, and coordinates donor relations and stewardship to promote interaction with and recognition of donors giving high-end annual gifts. The position works closely with national Annual Giving and Stewardship staff, and Engagement Officers in Trust for Public Land field offices to create unique engagement and stewardship opportunities and communications that demonstrate the value and impact of philanthropic investment, increases revenue and drives philanthropy results. The Conservation Champions Engagement Officer is a member of the 5-person Annual Giving team in San Francisco and reports to the Director of Annual Giving.

 

Responsibilities:

65% Conservation Champions Manager:

Increases participation in the Conservation Champion giving society through direct marketing efforts, prospect identification and qualification, donor discovery, cultivation, solicitation and stewardship.

Builds the prospect pipeline for the Conservation Champions giving society and supports the building of major gift officer portfolios;

Conducts cold calls, in-person meetings, and other standard techniques to engage and sustain long-term donor relationships with The Trust for Public Land.

Manages an individual portfolio of approximately 75 – 100 donors giving $1,000 – $10,000 annually;

Responds to donor inquires, drafts thoughtful and personalized cultivation letters and other correspondence;

Helps identify major and planned giving prospects to appropriate Philanthropy teams and Research;

Coordinates closely with other Engagement Officers throughout the country to share best practices and develop systems to track mid-level donors.

 

30% Donor Relations and Stewardship:

Plans and implements stewardship and recognition of Conservation Champion donors;

Personally fulfills Conservation Champion benefits, including invitations to events, webinars, and interactions with Trust for Public Land leadership;

Fulfills individual stewardship plans for selected key donors as assigned;

Conducts thank you calls to new and recently upgraded donors;

Coordinates with the President and Chief Philanthropy Officer offices on key stewardship efforts;

Works with the Marketing Department and/or direct marketing agencies to create and manage Conservation Champion collateral;

Works closely with state and regional philanthropy teams on benefit fulfillment and special stewardship efforts;

 

5% Other duties as assigned or required.

 

Qualifications:

Bachelor’s degree required.

Minimum of three years of fundraising experience

Prior experience with donor relations and stewardship preferred.

Working knowledge of the basics of direct mail, online giving, major gifts and planned giving

Demonstrated ability to accept and apply feedback, follow leadership and align with organizational decisions.

Self-motivated; able to multi-task with excellent attention to detail and deadlines; and can perform successfully without regular supervision.

Excellent oral and written communication skills.

Demonstrated experience writing donor acknowledgements, cultivation materials and other philanthropy copy.

Experience with prospect research, donor outreach and events management

Computer proficiency with various Microsoft Office applications (Word, Excel, PowerPoint).

Proficiency with complex databases or donor management software a plus.

Understands The Trust for Public Land’s gift acceptance policies and ensures ethical compliance with fundraising best practices, as defined by the Association for Fundraising Professionals. High integrity and commitment to personal and professional excellence.
