The Senior Policy Advisor plays a key role on public policy matters relating to climate and resilience topics working with A Better City’s members and partners. Responsibilities include the following:
Public Policy & Advocacy
- Manage/develop a portfolio of policy initiatives relating to energy/climate/resilience issues.
- Host meetings/forums/convenings to educate and mobilize the Boston area business community in support of meeting city/state climate goals.
- Organize multiple business sign-on letters to state/city officials regarding the business community’s perspective on key policy development opportunities.
- Engage member businesses and partners in the City of Boston’s planning process for Carbon-free Boston and the Climate Action Plan update.
- Help secure social/traditional media coverage to increase ABC’s profile as a leader on clean energy issues.
- Provide content expertise with key legislators, staffers and executive branch personnel.
- Position ABC as an essential resource for media covering energy and resilience topics.
- Collaborate with ABC members, partners and other business organizations in the development of
- Work with staff on policy development and advocacy efforts (stand-alone or on-going educational events, coalition work, media events, etc.).
Research
- Help shape and supervise research and work with consultants to ensure the creation of timely, cutting-edge information that can influence decision-makers at all levels.
- Produce and present nonpartisan policy papers/issue briefs on clean energy topics relevant to the commercial real estate sector and the broader business community to promote understanding and action among ABC members.
- Prepare additional briefings, white papers, reports, and recommendations regarding public policy that provide meaningful information and data to private and public sector decision-makers.
Qualifications:
4-10 years’ experience in climate, resilience, energy and/or sustainability policy, preferably in the commercial real estate or related sector or an allied advocacy organization.
- Experience in developing/analyzing policy/research.
- Experience implementing effective policy and advocacy strategies.
- Knowledge and experience of policy issues facing the Greater Boston area preferred.
- Excellent project management/planning skills.
- Strong research/writing skills.
- Ability to interact with diverse and sophisticated audiences, analyzing, summarizing, and communicating complex topics.
- Established network of climate policy organizations strongly preferred.
- Master’s degree in related field preferred.
