Position Summary:

The Coordinator for Campus Sustainability Programs works collaboratively with the faculty, staff and students to develop, coordinate, and promote effective sustainability initiatives to reduce the College’s impact on the environment. The Coordinator is responsible for the development and oversight of the student sustainability program; the collection of data and preparation of the AASHE Sustainable Tracking Assessment and Rating System (STARS) report; programming around sustainability as it relates to how students, faculty, and staff live and work on campus; and management of the Office’s website. She/He/They will foster a culture of campus sustainability among students, faculty, and staff.

Primary Position Responsibilities:

1. Develop and direct the student program

Develop a comprehensive student program that aligns with campus sustainability goals and initiatives. This includes developing, implementing, and refining:

  • How the program will be organized including the goals and learning outcomes.
  • The application processes each year to hire new student staff.
  • Administrative protocols for work hours, timesheets, and student schedules.

More Generally:

  • Supervise student workers. This includes scheduling weekly meetings and being available for some after hour events and programs.
  • Prepare an annual report on the student program for the Chief Sustainability Officer
  • Develop relationships with staff and faculty across campus, which serve student sustainability programs, and which support overall sustainability programming and links between academics, student life, and facilities.
  • Serve on committees, task forces, or on other groups related to sustainability.

2. Develop and manage a system for collecting and recording AASHE Sustainable Tracking Assessment and Rating System (STARS) data.

  • Plan and organize a process for gathering data for STARS.
  • Present and inform campus groups about STARS.
  • Coordinate and meet with offices and departments responsible for suppling data.
  • Implement a process to gather data yearly
  • Prepare STARS report for review

3. Communication and website maintenance.

  • Develop and maintain web pages for the Office.
  • Develop a calendar for sustainability related events
  • Publicize the student program both on campus and nationally.
  • Further other communication-related goals of the student program.

4. Develops strong relationships with faculty, alumnae, and staff across campus, and with external sustainability organizations to advance Wellesley’s leadership in campus sustainability and environmental literacy.

  • Be visible to the campus community
  • Be an active member of the Advisory Committee on Environmental Sustainability (ACES)
  • Coordinate, promote, and provide advice for sustainability initiatives undertaken by the ACES
  • Act as a liaison between academics and facilities for living laboratory opportunities, and as liaison for the College with external sustainability and environmental organizations to support both the academic mission and sustainability priorities of the College.
  • In consultation with a member of ACES, help manage initiatives undertaken with Class of 57 Green Fund
  • In collaboration with the Sustainability Director, advise on facilities-related issues

5. Performs and completes other duties and projects related to the College Sustainability Initiative, as assigned

Education:

B.A./B.S. required (education, natural sciences, communications, etc.), Master’s degree preferred.

Required Background/Skills:

  • Minimum 3-5 years of experience working with students, faculty, and staff in higher education developing and managing sustainability programming.
  • Knowledge of sustainability and the natural sciences.
  • Ability to carry out responsibilities with minimal supervision and determine work priorities.
  • Ability to prioritize work tasks, to multi-task, while maintaining focus.
  • Good organizational skills and attention to detail.
  • Experience collecting, tracking, and conducting basic data analysis.
  • Excellent oral and written communication skills.
  • Proficiency with MS Office Suite including Word, Excel, PowerPoint, etc.
  • Student-worker supervisory experience
