Job Summary

Columbus State University has an opening for a Sustainability Coordinator. This position assists with projects and systems that will lead in the development of new sustainability initiatives at the University.

Responsibilities

Responsibilities include but are not limited to: establishing communication avenues and serving as liaison between the Office of Sustainability and the University; assisting in the coordination of developing coherent campus and community wide sustainability programs; identifying or investigating violations of natural resources, waste management, recycling, or other environmental policies; investigating employee complaints concerning exposure to air pollutants; collecting and disposing of all campus recycling; be an active member of the University’s “One CSU’ Sustainability Fair and the Sustainability committee; working with the Emergency Response Team to address environmental incidents, such as chemical spills/leaks; attending conferences and seminars on sustainability; educating faculty and staff on environmental health and safety procedures; monitoring and tracking sustainability indicators, such as energy usage, natural resource usage, waste generation, and recycling; and all other related duties as assigned.

Required Qualifications

Minimum qualifications include a Bachelor’s degree in Environmental Science, Biology, or closely related field from a regionally accredited college or university; a minimum of three years’ experience in a university setting with recycling, sustainability, and/or environmental safety; or an equivalent combination of education and experience. The successful candidate must possess a demonstrated knowledge of sustainability programs in a university setting; knowledge of computer operations, software, spreadsheets, email, and web communications; possess effective time management, customer service, communication, and organizational skills; must occasionally lift or move up to 25 pounds; occasionally be exposed to various weather conditions and toxic or caustic chemicals; the ability  to write grant and rebate applications, or project proposals to secure funding for sustainability projects; the ability to collect, analyze, and interpret various forms of quantitative and qualitative data; the ability to multi-task and have a strong attention to detail; strong customer focus; and possess excellent written and oral communication skills.

Proposed Salary

The salary range is $35,000 – $38,000 annualized.
