Hello!
Steve from NativeEyes here. We are a new (and small) entity focused on “urban friendly” native plants. We’ve been conducting trials in Portland to find native perennials, shrubs and trees that appear to better tolerate urban conditions and/or have traits liked by homeowners, yet also provide the desired ecological benefit. We are also exploring/experimenting with propagation techniques with harder to grow/propagate natives such as hairy manzanita and madrone, and others.
We seek someone with a passion for native plants to help us on this journey. The work will primarily be nursery production as we figure out how to grow the plants in our test beds into sufficient quantities for sale.
Paid and volunteer stints available. Since we are new and small, and not yet in an “on-going” operation, the work will be project based and those projects might include pot-up, propagation, preparing beds (for seed or live plant material), etc. In season, we will wild collect seed and plants.
These trips are quite fun.
The main plant grow facility is in outer SE Portland, not too far from Zenger Farm and Powell Butte.
If interested, please email steve@nativeeyes.com, and tell me a little about your background and interests. A resume or CV is welcome, if you have one.
Thank you for your time and interest. Please don’t hesitate to share.
