Seattle Public Utilities (SPU) Community Partnerships Team is seeking three (3) graduate interns for the Environmental Programs and Inspection Division of the Solid Waste Line of Business. These interns will learn about the Recycling, Composting and Public Place Litter & Recycling (PPLR) Programs. These interns will assist with recycling and composting outreach and education to Seattle businesses and multi-family residents. They will report to the Manager of one of these programs: Commercial Recycling & Composting, Multifamily Recycling & Composting, or Public Place Litter & Recycling.

There are currently three (3) graduate internship opportunities available, projected to start mid-May 2019. These internships are for up to 18 months or graduation, whichever comes first. We require a minimum 1-year commitment for this internship. |

Under direct supervision, the interns will learn through supervised practical training and various aspects of community outreach in support of SPU’s Recycling, Composting & Litter Management Programs. Duties may include, but not be limited to:

Qualifications: |
Education: Applicants must be currently enrolled in graduate-level coursework, pursuing a degree related to Environmental Management, Communications, Public Administration, or Urban Planning, or a closely related field.
Applicants must be enrolled either part-time or full-time for the duration of the internship. Exception:Students do not need to be enrolled over the summer months but will need to provide at the end of Spring Quarter proof of continuing and pre-registration for the Autumn session as applicable. Graduate students must maintain a minimum 3.0 GPA. Licensing and Other Requirements: A Washington State Driver’s license is required for this internship in order to operate a City vehicle to outreach events and site visits. |
Additional Information: |
Hours: Basic work hours are between 7:00 AM and 5:00 PM, but may flex for occasional weekend work. During school sessions, work hours will be scheduled to complement class schedules (14-20 hours per week). This internship may permit up to full-time (40 hours per week) during breaks and summer months.
