Job Location: The Wildlife Technician (Habitat) will be stationed at the Boise River Wildlife Management Area at 13000 East Highway 21, near Boise, ID.
Salary: $ 12.41/hour; 40 hours/week
Dates of Employment: April 1 – June 14, 2019; Housing IS NOT provided.
Primary Job Responsibilities: The Southwest Region is seeking two (2) temporary Wildlife Technicians (non-benefited) to assist with wildlife habitat management activities in the Boise River Wildlife Management Area (Boise River WMA) during spring 2019. The selected applicants will work both independently and as part of a team to conduct wildlife habitat management activities on the Boise River WMA near Boise, Idaho. The Boise River WMA is located east of Boise, approximately 14 miles up state highway 21. It contains upland and riparian habitat. Work is generally conducted Monday – Friday, but the schedule may vary depending on the project. Housing is NOT provided.
With or without reasonable accommodations, incumbent must be able to work in adverse weather conditions and be able to lift and carry up to 50 lbs.
Perform wildlife and habitat management duties on WMA. Operate various equipment including, but not limited to: 4×4 truck, ATV, tractor w/ implements, chainsaw, power tools, and sprayers. Conduct weed control and monitor use of chemical herbicides. Build, repair, remove fences; maintain equipment, facilities, and grounds. Conduct vegetation monitoring and public use of WMA. Assist manager with other duties as assigned.
Qualifications/Skills Needed:
Minimum Qualifications: Knowledge of at least one of the following: 1) Good knowledge of wildlife ecology and habitat requirements and some knowledge of wildlife habitat including evaluation and management practices; OR 2) Good knowledge of biology, zoology, botany, conservation biology or closely related discipline. Experience with herbicide applications, farm equipment, and plant identification is preferred. Must have some experience recording and summarizing biological data using a personal or field computer. Must be able to communicate effectively with the public. The abilities to work independently with minimal supervision and make efficient use of field time are essential requirements for this position. Must possess a valid driver’s license and be able to competently and safely operate a chainsaw, power trimmer, 4×4 truck, ATV, and tractor with implements (disk, mower, etc.).
