Interns will be performing stream surveys on the Mt. Baker-Snoqualmie National Forest. Duties include, but are not limited to, collecting stream habitat data, riparian vegetation information, streambed substrate, and detection of fish presence primarily through snorkeling or other ocular identification.  Also report writing and data entry will be performed.  Work conditions may include long hikes in rough terrain. Also interns will be wading in streams where slippery conditions and loose footing is common. All safety gear such as orange vests, hardhats and specialized stream boots will be provided.
  • Location will either be based in either Glacier or Darrington, WA.
  • 1) US Forest Service Pacific Northwest Region – Stream Inventory and Assessment training (June 2019)2) Database entry

    3) Evaluation of water diversion and assessing impacts to fisheries.

  • The work duties provide students interested in watershed, fisheries, hydrology or related science practical experience. In addition, interns become exposed to working in a federal land management agency.

Interns will be housed at US Forest Service facilities that include bunkhouses.  Such facilities house temporary workforce performing various resource management tasks.  Bunkhouse include kitchens, beds and bathrooms. Resident conduct and rules are expected to be followed.
