The Department of Ecology is looking for an Industrial Stormwater Facility Manager in our Water Quality Program. This position works with industrial facilities to ensure they follow pollution laws and regulations, and is located at our Central Regional Office in Union Gap, WA.
We are looking for applicants who possess excellent people skills, the ability to quickly assess a situation and make a decision, and the ability to communicate with a diverse audience. This position requires working closely with the regulated community to meet the requirements of their permits or help identify those facilities that need permit coverage, and an eye for detail when conducting on site work with permitted facilities.

Duties
What dos the Industrial Stormwater Facility Manager do?
This position supports the Water Quality Program’s goal of protecting and improving water quality by managing Industrial Stormwater permits in the Central Region. This includes:
- Conducting site visits, typically for technical assistance or compliance.
- Acting as the primary regional contact for facilities seeking assistance on permitting requirements, obtaining permit coverages, and terminating permit coverage.
- Working with the regional compliance specialist on enforcement actions to address permit violations that put water quality and the environment at risk.

Qualifications
A Bachelor’s degree involving major study in environmental, physical, or one of the natural sciences, environmental planning or other allied field AND two years of professional level experience in environmental analysis or control or environmental planning.
Additional qualifying experience will substitute, year for year, for education.
A Master’s degree in one of the above fields will substitute for one year of the required experience.
OR
A Ph.D. in one of the above fields.
Desired Qualifications:
- Experience working with environmental legislation and regulations at the federal, state, and local level
- Experience with oral and written communication of complex issues and interpreting technical documents for a variety of audiences
- Experience in applying negotiation and conflict resolution skills.
- Experience with GIS systems and associated mobile devices.
- Experience or demonstrated familiarity with stormwater and industrial facilities.
- A Bachelor’s degree involving major study in environmental or one of the natural sciences, environmental planning or other allied field.
Special Requirements/Conditions of Employment
Must have a valid driver’s license
