Internship Job Duties Letter
Interns assist Current Planning Staff with a number of tasks critical to the Current Planning department. Interns are tasked with digitizing historical information important in evaluation of general inquiries from the public and for research of current applications for project permits. Interns utilize Arc GIS, Microsoft Office, Tidemark – our permit tracking software, Whatcom County Assessor & Auditor property & recording search portals, and other Whatcom County resources to correctly identify, catalog, and digitize exempt land division, boundary line
adjustment, and lot of record archived applications into a PDF format. The scanned files will then be linked to a layer in GIS for staff use.
GIS is used for attaching the scanned Exemption files to the parcel layer. Experience with ArcMap 10.X, ArcReader, and Publisher is required. Duties will include attaching the scanned files using hyperlinks to attribute tables, testing the hyperlinks, and publishing to ArcReader.
Dependent on their availability and areas of interest, the Intern will also get some “on the job experience” with other areas of Planning & Development Services such as the front counter, natural resources, applicable project meetings, or long range planning.
