CONSERVATION INTERNSHIP PROGRAM

The Conservation Internship Program is designed to provide hands on training and experience to those interested in pursuing employment with land and water resource management agencies, and other outdoor careers. The program is a cooperative effort designed to address community, environmental, and resource management projects.  Through this program, public agencies and community organizations host a Conservation Intern to directly address pressing community resource needs for a three to ten month period.  Northwest Youth Corps supports the partnership by supplying placement, administrative, and training support.

Conservation Interns may work on the following types of projects:

•      Improve and Restore Public Lands and Waters
•      Habitat Restoration & Impact Mitigation
•      Invasive Species Inventory and Treatment
•      Trail Maintenance and Recreation Infrastructure
•      Natural Resource Data Collection

The Internship program is an effective way for Federal, State, and Municipal agencies and Non-profit organizations to harness the passion and energy of interested in natural resources.  The program engages the citizen stewards of tomorrow on projects that will help them learn, grow, and gain valuable experience.

Recreation Management Steward
AmeriCorps 450 Hour | Northwest Youth Corps and Mt. Baker-Snoqualmie National Forest | Verlot, WA and Skykomish, WA

The U.S. Forest Service is recruiting 2 summer interns to provide recreation management assistance on the Darrington and Skykomish Ranger Districts in the Mt. Baker-Snoqualmie NF. We are seeking candidates with a desire to work outdoors, engage the public with these wild places, and may want a career in public lands management. Major duties are related to learning and working alongside personnel in visitor services at the Mt. Baker – Snoqualmie National Forest.

Aquatic Steward
AmeriCorps 450 Hour | Northwest Youth Corps and the Army Corps of Engineers | Lowell, OR

The U.S. Army Corps of Engineers (USACE) is currently recruiting for one position to support fish, aquatic natural resources, and habitat management and restoration at Army Corps Lands in the Willamette Valley Region. The successful candidate will assist with management of aquatic natural resources at the 13 reservoirs in the Willamette Valley Region.

Outreach and Education Intern
AmeriCorps 900 Hour | Northwest Youth Corps and Olympic National Park | Port Angeles, WA

Two interns will work with the Outreach and Education Specialist at Olympic National Park, delivering environmental education programs for school children. The interns will also work at various community events staffing the park’s exhibit booth and answering questions about Olympic National Park. Depending on the interests and abilities of the selected candidate there are opportunities to work on various projects – including website work, multi-media presentations, etc.

OPEN RESOURCE ASSISTANT PROGRAM POSITIONS:

Tribal Affairs Liaison
12 Month Resource Assistant | Northwest Youth Corps and Mount Baker-Snoqualmie National Forest | Everett, WA

The Tribal Liaison is a Resource Assistant Program (RAP) internship. RAP is a rigorous, immersive work and learning experience that provides developmental and training opportunities for individuals interested in learning more about Forest Service careers, and allows for meaningful contribution to the agency’s mission. The Tribal Liaison will be responsible for working with the U.S. Forest Service and local Native American tribes to build mutually beneficial partnerships through culturally significant projects on national forest lands.
