South Puget Sound Region is actively two seasonal Recreation and Conservation Public Outreach & Seasonal Interns for the Snoqualmie Unit Recreation Program. These are full-time, intern positions. Anticipated appointment is mid-May thru August 2019 or mid-June thru September 2019, with flexibility to accommodate school start /end dates. The work will involve a flexible schedule that includes routine evening and weekend work. The duty station is in North Bend, Washington. There is a $500/month (maximum of three months) housing stipend available.

The Snoqualmie Corridor encompasses approximately 55,000 acres of DNR-managed state trust lands and natural areas. This includes working forests such a Tiger Mountain and Raging River State Forests which provide a stream of revenue to public schools and other trust beneficiaries through timber harvest and other forest products. Natural Areas include the Mount Si, Middle Fork Snoqualmie, West Tiger Mountain Natural Resources Conservation Areas (NRCAs) and the Rattlesnake Mountain Scenic Area, which provide protection to some of the state’s most scenic landscapes, diverse ecosystems, and rare plant and animal habitats. The Snoqualmie Corridor includes approximately 160 miles of non-motorized trails, 13 recreations sites and over 1 million annual user visits per year.

Who are we looking for?

Required Qualifications: 

The right candidate has:

  • Applicant must be a student or graduate student majoring in Recreation, Natural Resource Management, Communication Studies, Environmental Education or closely related field and will be returning to school in a following quarter/semester.
  • High level of detail and strong communication skills.
  • Physical ability to work alone or as part of a team in undeveloped, remote, forested or back-country terrain
  • Experience using Microsoft office products including Excel, PowerPoint, and Word
  • Must have a valid driver’s license and have two years of driving experience. This position requires driving as an essential function.  Employees who drive for state business, whether in a state or privately-owned vehicle, are required to possess a valid license as defined in policy PO02-006 and abide by all other driver responsibility requirements.

Desirable Qualifications:

  • A commitment to outdoor recreation and conservation, evidence through course work (such as General Biology, Outdoor Recreation Management, Tourism, Environmental Education, Natural Resource Management or close related course) and activities.
