DescriptionThe Idaho Department of Water Resources (IDWR) is offering an exciting opportunity for an individual to have an impact on Idaho Water issues.  The position is in the Geospatial Technology Section of the Information Technology Services Bureau and entails supporting GIS applications used by IDWR staff and the public. This position will be located at the IDWR State Office in Boise, Idaho.   At the Analyst II level, the Geographic Information Systems analyst will plan and conduct complex geographic information system (GIS) analyses; provide technical assistance to users; and perform related work.  The analyst will work under limited supervision, with considerable latitude for the use of initiative and independent judgement and will participate as a team member on GIS projects.

Example of Duties

  • Apply knowledge of GIS principles and practices
  • Create, organize, and maintain GIS data for internal, external, and public use
  • Build and maintain GIS layers and databases, including metadata, to ensure data quality and availability
  • Develop and maintain web-based mapping applications
  • Analyze spatial data and prepare necessary reports and maps
  • Design, compile and create spatial products using GIS software
  • Train and educate internal and external customers

Minimum QualificationsGood knowledge of GIS principles; cartographic principles; web and mobile GIS principles; conducting GIS analysis.
Experience operating, applying, and programming GIS software products in a work environment.

Supplemental Information

  • Knowledge of GIS programming languages commonly used in the development of GIS applications; principles of database design and management.
  • Knowledge of database structure or management; scripting; web development; mobile GIS.
  • Knowledge of software configuration management, programming principles.
  • Experience, operating, managing and customizing GIS software products in a work environment.
