Clark County Vegetation Management is hiring Noxious Weed Control -Field Workers for the 2019 field season (3 Positions). These are temporary positions working under the direction of the Vegetation Management, Lead Field Inspector with responsibilities of assisting with noxious weed survey and control efforts. Each position pay $15/hour and is six months in duration (or 1040 hours) with the potential of extending. Start date varies from mid-March to April. Applicants that have a Washington state pesticide license that is valid will start at $16/hour. Work hours are Monday through Friday, 8 hours a day. JOB SUMMARY
Responsibilities include assisting with inspection of county public and private lands to detect noxious weed infestations and provide control of those species. Positions include collection, mapping, and maintaining data on noxious weed infestations using GPS, IPad with Collector, Survey 123, and a combination of herbicide application. Employees will be working in all weather conditions. These positions involve working within an environment with exposure to chemicals, pollen, insects, water and bees.
KEY TASKS AND RESPONSIBILITIES
- Assist in survey and control of noxious weeds and ensure compliance with State regulations.
- Prepare reports of weed infestations as identified through inspections.
- Apply herbicide and operate equipment such as GPS, watercraft, backpack sprayers, ATV and machetes.
- Perform related duties as assigned by the Vegetation Management Field Inspector or Lead Coordinator.
QUALIFICATIONS:
- Experience in plant identification (native and ornamental).
- Ability to stand and walk for 8-10 hour shifts.
- Must be able to carry a 40 lb. backpack sprayer of herbicide mix.
- Must be comfortable working in a remote setting.
- Possession of a current Washington State Herbicide Applicator’s license or the ability to obtain one within thirty days.
- Restoration planting and landscape maintenance experience preferred.
- ATV and kayak experience preferred.
- Experience with Microsoft office programs/ArcGIS experience is helpful.
- Ability to successfully pass a drug screen.
- Must have a valid driver’s license, proof of auto insurance, and a clean driving record from the past 3 years.
