The Lake Winnipeg Foundation (LWF), an environmental non-profit organization seeking solutions to ensure a healthy Lake Winnipeg and watershed, is accepting candidates for the immediate full-time position of innovative PROGRAM MANAGER, as part of our Agricultural Water Stewardship program.

As part of our dynamic and growing organization, the successful Program Manager will be responsible for:

  • Leading the development and implementation of a water-quality monitoring program for agricultural beneficial management practices (BMPs), in collaboration with landowners, conservation partners and LWF science advisors
  • Effectively managing program resources in response to existing and emerging priorities and opportunities

Program planning and development

  • Identify and foster strategic partnerships with landowners, partner organizations, researchers and agricultural stakeholders to support relevant and robust BMP monitoring and communication of outcomes
  • Maintain a strong working knowledge of Lake Winnipeg watershed dynamics and issues affecting lake health

Sampling and analysis

  • Maintain an up-to-date relational database of credible phosphorus data related to agricultural BMPs
  • Coordinate sampling activities in response to discharge events
  • Coordinate hydrological data collection to support calculation of phosphorus loads
  • Conduct water chemistry analyses on all samples

Interpretation, communication and outreach

  • Analyze and interpret BMP data with support from LWF science advisors
  • Compile and share data and information with landowners, partners and stakeholders through annual reports, workshops and community presentations
  • Support the integration of BMP monitoring outcomes into LWF communications, reporting, and evaluation

Funder relations and grants management

  • Identify, develop and submit funding proposals to support LWF’s new and existing programs
  • Track and manage funding resources, report on funding outcomes and maintain positive funder relations

Administration, planning and internal communications

  • Participate in annual action planning activities to support the achievement of organizational goals
  • Train, supervise and evaluate programs staff, using human resources procedures

Education and/or Experience:

Bachelors or Master’s degree in Agriculture, Agro-ecology, Science, Environmental Science, Geography or Natural Resources Management and at least 2 years’ relevant work experience.

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities

  • Demonstrated field and lab experience in agriculture, hydrology, water chemistry, and/or environmental monitoring
  • Strong understanding of scientific methodology, research principles and experimental design
  • Demonstrated experience in data management and statistical analyses
  • Solid understanding of project management principles, tools and techniques
  • Demonstrated experience working with farmers and landowners
  • Proficient in computer word-processing, spreadsheet and database management, electronic mail and online communication tools.
  • Experience in GIS mapping and web design an asset
  • Experience working in the non-profit sector an asset
