The successful candidate for the Toxicology Intern (Environmental Specialist 1) will be part of the Reducing Toxic Threats unit in our Hazardous Waste & Toxics Reduction program.

Duties
The Hazardous Waste and Toxics Reduction (HWTR) Program is made up of people dedicated to fostering sustainability, preventing pollution, and promoting safe waste management. We do many different things in a coordinated approach to protect the people and environment of Washington from hazardous products and waste.
This position contributes to meeting the mission of the agency by researching the toxicity and exposure sources of phthalates. This includes:
Phthalate Toxicity Characterization Report:
- Review government reports and peer reviewed literature.
- Draft sections of the report and compile an organized list of references.
Identification of products that are significant sources of phthalate exposure:
- Identify consumer products based on government reports, peer reviewed literature, industry reports and EPA tools that make significant contributions to human and environmental phthalate exposure.
- Develop list of existing regulations on phthalates in consumer products and discuss the availability for safer alternatives.
Qualifications
Required Qualifications:
A Bachelor’s degree involving major study in environmental, physical, or one of the natural sciences, environmental planning or other allied field.
Experience at or above the Environmental Technician level or equivalent will substitute, year for year, for education.
Desired Qualifications
Toxicology coursework and experience in a professional or academic organization
