POSITION SUMMARY
Benton County is actively seeking for a GIS Cartographer to join our Assessment Department. This position creates, revises, and maintains digital cadastral maps (Assessor Maps) under the guidelines of ORMAPS using ESRI ArcGIS Software. Coordinates and updates the Assessment Department’s recorded assessment/property ownership records. Produces segregations, consolidations, subdivisions and annexations. Implement procedures to modify, generate and create digital maps, utilizing legal and surveying concepts for both assessment and geographic information system base maps.
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS
- Analyze, evaluate and interpret legal descriptions, plats and surveys to create, modify and maintain maps and ownership records for assessment and geographic information system (GIS) base maps.
- Construct and change maps to comply with DOR mapping standards to reflect current information on property divisions, partition plats, subdivisions, surveys.
- Analyze, modify and verify legal description for taxing district boundary changes. Create and modify taxing district codes as required. Create and maintain specialized data sets to use in conjunction with our ORMAP GIS database.
- Research, explain and document information on property ownership, deeds, property location, and all other assessment records and resource information.
- Assist county, city, state, and general public with mapping and records system inquires.
- Assist customers and co-workers with mapping questions.
- And other duties as assigned.
TOTAL COMPENSATION:
Annual salary: $44,473 – $54,475 annually; DOQ/E.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS
- Associate’s degree or two-year technical degree in a field related to the assignment such as
- Computer Science, Geography, Surveying, Information Systems and Cadastral Mapping.
- 4 years of directly related experience in area of assignment.
- Ability to be able to read complex legal descriptions.
- An equivalent combination of education and experience may be accepted.
