The Partnership for Working Families, with our 19 affiliate organizations, is driving a progressive agenda to harness the power of cities and influence billions of dollars in public and private investment. Our network is building powerful, governing coalitions with a grassroots base of leaders to advance a vision of just, sustainable, and democratic cities by:

Persistent and rising inequalities have played an equally important role in driving the climate crisis as our reliance on fossil fuels. Increasing clean energy sources while creating low wage jobs is not only unjust, it won’t produce the environmental impacts we need. Tackling the climate crisis should focus on more than growing a clean energy sector or industry, it should reimagine the economy as being powered by the regenerative sources of the sun, water, and wind, where workers develop skills and can access jobs that sustain their families and create resilient communities.
We are seeking a Climate Justice Leadto join our team!The ideal candidate will have a deep
commitment to social, racial, economic and environmental justice and building toward a clean energy economy.
Responsibilities
Reporting to the Campaign Director, the Climate Justice Lead will advance the climate justice program as a part of We Make This City — the Partnership’s campaign to win the systems and structures people need to live full and healthy lives. The primary roles for this position include:
●Network Organizing
○Convene affiliates running clean energy campaigns to build a connected and collaborative space that advances local campaigns and builds our collective power.
○Identify concrete projects that will both advance local campaigns and disseminate effective policy and organizing models.
○Create opportunities to increase affiliate capacity by providing strategic support that could include coaching, research, strategy development, etc.
○Build strong and effective partnerships with each affiliate and a deep understanding of their campaign goals and strategies.
●Program Development
○Coordinate with the We Make This City team to align clean energy campaigns with the broad campaign vision, goals and strategies.
○Serve as a powerful, inspiring public voice for the network’s vision and represent the work of the network at events, policy meetings, public meetings, and 1-1 meetings.
○Build partnerships with movement allies and identify opportunities for collaboration/coordination that strengthens local campaigns.
○Collaborate with the broader staff team in solidifying and incorporating the network’s shared climate justice analysis across programs.
○Support the Communications Director in executing a communications plan that delivers a shared narrative and message about our clean energy campaigns.
Qualifications
●Alignment with the Partnership’s organizational values and emerging climate justice analysis.
●Demonstrated commitment to social, racial, economic and environmental justice and experience building teams and campaigns that reflect that commitment.
●2-3 years experience moving/supporting intersectional issue-based campaigns that includes:
○Direct experience advancing a climate-related campaign.
○Convening/building coalitions/cohorts that advance a unified vision/goal.
○Identifying and building opportunities for collaboration through relationship building.
○Providing training and/or coaching to campaign staff including organizers, researchers, and communicators.
○Co-strategizing with a range of partners to advance shared goals.
○Ability to collaborate and share decision making with a range of stakeholders including staff, affiliates and allies.
○Strong ability to develop and facilitate meeting agendas that move a group toward shared goals.
●Expertise on climate justice issues.
●Excellent project management skills with the ability to keep long and short-term projects moving at the same time.
●Outstanding written and spoken communication skills.
●Ability to travel on a monthly basis required.
●Preferred qualifications, but not required:
○Expertise on clean energy and just transition specifically.
○Experience conducting research projects on climate-related issues, policy and/or industries.
○Experience conducting and applying corporate research and mapping.
○Experience coordinating program and projects across multiple geographies.
Compensation And Location
This is a full-time position. We offer a competitive starting salary between $50,000 – 69,000 (based on experience) and generous benefits, including covering full health benefit premiums (health, dental and vision) and a 401k plan with an employer contribution.
The position will ideally be located in a city in which a one of the Partnership’s 19 affiliates is located, but we will consider exceptional candidates who are located in other cities and major media markets.
