Who we are
The Office of Sustainability provides vision and leadership for campus sustainability, implements programs and planning to encourage sustainable practices, coordinates an annual institutional sustainability assessment, and collaborates with other institutions of higher education through regional and national engagement.

What we want
The Sustainability Operations Coordinator is responsible for fostering a culture of sustainability at Texas A&M University. This position will enhance sustainability public education and outreach initiatives through a variety of platforms including social media outlets, development and implementation of programs such as the Sustainable Office Certification, the Aggie Sustainability Alliance, and coordination and management of the Aggie Green Fund. Assists with the Office of Sustainability’s institutional assessment and reporting goals, work with high-level campus stakeholders to accomplish sustainability objectives, and identifies new programs for development that will increase the sustainability of practices such as recycling, energy and water use, transportation, food services, purchasing, and social justice.

Required Education and Experience:

  • Bachelor’s degree or equivalent combination of education and experience
  • Three years of related experience in working in a sustainability related field

Required Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:

  • Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with diverse constituents and personalities
  • Ability to communicate with campus constituencies that include department heads and professional leadership team
  • Proficiency using word processing, spreadsheet, and presentation software
  • Strong communication, analytic, and problem solving skills
  • Ability to produce high quality work
  • Exceptional customer service skills
  • Excellent written and oral communication skills
  • Ability to multi-task and work cooperatively with others

Other Requirements or Other Factors:

  • Promotes and contributes to a safe working environment by reporting accidents and unsafe working conditions, uses proper protective equipment, follows safety procedures, and participates in safety training
  • Completes all applicable Federal, State of Texas, System and University training requirements in a timely manner

Preferred Education and Experience:

  • Master’s degree in field applicable to elements of sustainability (social, environmental, and/or financial)
  • Four years of experience working in higher education, administration, facilities setting, or similar work environment where program development and management can be demonstrated
  • Experience developing and implementing programs
  • Experience with development of outreach and communications programs to include graphic design skills, and social media management
  • Experience working with Texas A&M College Station or other higher education programs

Preferred Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:

  • Proficiency using Word, Excel, and PowerPoint

Responsibilities:

  • Assist with the management and oversight of the University Advancement Fee (Aggie Green Fund) to distribute grant dollars to sustainability-related campus projects. This includes working with a grant management system, such as WizeHive, to manage the process for accepting abstracts and applications, awarding grants, and monitoring reporting requirements for all grant recipients
  • Serve as advisor to the Aggie Green Fund Advisory Committee
  • Evaluate current program against goals and objectives
  • Assist with the management and guidance of operational activities that help create a culture of sustainability at Texas A&M by communicating and educating all parts of campus and the broader community on issues of sustainability through public speaking, outreach events, the Aggie Sustainability Alliance, and development of other behavior change programs
  • Design and implement programs to facilitate sustainability goals
  • Work on sustainability awareness issues within the local community and other universities
  • Education platforms include utilizing various forms of social media such as Facebook, Twitter, Instagram, and Snapchat
  • Engage all divisions and departments on campus in interdisciplinary conversations about Texas A&M’s role in responding to the challenge of becoming a sustainable university
  • Coordinate and manage student intern program responsible for launching sustainability programs such as the Aggie Sustainability Alliance. This includes hiring, offering clear direction, and creating a professional work environment
  • Work with campus department leaders to commit resources for the implementation of sustainability programs
  • Serve as office coordinator for reporting data for institutional assessment goals. This includes tracking and monitoring annual performance and making recommendations to enhance office operational performance
  • Perform other duties as assigned
